This herb is a very useful women's remedy, particularly for hot flushes and some types of period pain. It has a calming effect and can help to reduce blood pressure. It has also been used successfully for some cases of tinnitus and is a useful anti-inflammatory agent in cases of arthritis.

Avoid in pregnancy and breast-feeding. May increase the effect of HRT and oestrogens and progesterones in general, so seek advice if taking HRT or the contraceptive pill. Contains salicylates - avoid if allergic to aspirin. Do not exceed stated dose. May cause headaches and digestive upsets in sensitive individuals - if this occurs, reduce dosage or seek advice.
